WSCC 2023 Halloween Rally Master’s Report

By Ken Frey

Let me first thank everybody who took the time to come play with us at our 2023 Halloween Rally. The weather report for the event day was heavy rains during the day, clearing by 5pm and gusty winds during the evening. The rain was very light from 11am to about 1pm and then no rain. The evening was without wind. So, we all lucked out.

I want to thank Co-Chairman Dave Trezza for his help of tweaking a couple instructions, as I always count on him to make sure the instructions are technically correct. I thank Dave for going out into the bushes and putting up the rally signs on Saturday with me and taking them down on Sunday with me. Thank you to Barbara Gebala for designing the best Dash Plaques I have ever seen for an event! Just spectacular! Thank you to Jesse Lipscher for doing the promotion for the event and ordering the dash plaques. Thank you to Diane Mays for running Registration for us and preparing all the paperwork for Registration. Thank you to Emmy Mays for helping Diane with Registration.

There were 16 cars in the rally. The official time of the rally was 2 hours, 42 minutes and 47 seconds. The WSCC team of Don Mays and Mark Connelly finished with an astounding 1 second off the official time. Just incredible! The next closest team was Tim Farrelly and Mike Carroll at 44 seconds early. Then Mark Komal and Peter Newman were 66 seconds late. All incredible feats for a rally approaching three hours.

59 signs were put up. 56 of those signs were seen by somebody, so that means 56 are the official number of signs in the rally. The team of Mark Komal and Peter Newman had the most signs identified with 52. The second most seen signs identified was by the team of Stefan Heinz and Kevin Steinberg with 50 signs. The third best team in signs seen was Tim Farrelly and Mike Carroll with 48 signs identified.

The official mileage was 62.4. Only one team nailed the mileage, the team of Stefan Heinz and Kevin Steinberg. The second closest team in mileage was Diane Mays and Emily Mays, .5 off of the mark. The third closest mileage was the team of Tim Farrelly and Mike Carroll with 7.5 tenths off the mark.

The winners of the rally were a team, not surprisingly, mentioned twice above of Mark Komal and Peter Newman. In second place was a team that is also mentioned twice above of Tim Farrelly and Mike Carroll. In third place, ironically, is a team that was not mentioned above at all. The WSCC team of Jesse Lipscher and Barbara Gebala. A team who, obviously, did very well in the three categories.

The winner of the Never Give Up and Determination award is the team of Stefan Heinz and Kevin Steinberg. They saw the second most signs and nailed the mileage, but if you look at the time, you will notice that they ran the course twice finishing around 1:30am. Now THAT is determination! Kudos to them.

We thank everyone for attending the WSCC 2023 Halloween Rally and look forward to seeing you all on December 2 at the WSCC 2023 Turkey Tour Rally. Talk up the fun you had at the Halloween Rally and bring some friends to the Turkey Tour. Wishing you all a fantastic Thanksgiving!
